Each of our reports uses our proprietary Benchmark Peer Group methodology, whereby your community is compared against its Benchmark Peer Group, the twenty most similar communities in Massachusetts derived using an analysis of 15 key socio-economic, demographic and geographic attributes.
Municipal Yardstick
Our flagship product, the Municipal Yardstick provides a macro view of your community’s revenues, expenditures, debt, proposition 2 1/2 overrides, land use and assessments. The Municipal Yardstick comes with 20 copies of the report, two meetings and a back-up data disk.
Education Yardstick
The Education Yardstick dissects spending by area within your schools, looking at everything from top level per pupil spending down to granular line item expenditures, including areas such as special education spending and transportation. In addition, it looks at cost drivers, such as student population, staffing levels and salaries. Finally, the Education Yardstick includes a detailed analysis of your community’s MCAS scores broken down by grade and type of test. The Education Yardstick comes with ten copies of the report, one meeting and a back up data disk.
Police Snapshot The Police Snapshot offers a comprehensive analysis of police spending in your community. It highlights where police spending fits within the overall budget before dissecting police expenditures, staffing, salaries, overtime, health care benefits, vacation and sick leave, and the incidence of crime. The Police Snapshot comes with five copies of the report, one meeting and a back up data disk.

Negotiation Benchmark Our new Negotiation Benchmark reports are designed to give you a competitive advantage during the collective bargaining context. The report shows a detailed an granular break down of your community's police or fire union contract for areas such as base salary, longevity pay, education bonuses, night shift pay, vacation benefits and healthcare coverage. The data in these reports is pulled from our review and analysis of the acutal collective bargaining agreements taken from each municipality in Massachusetts. The Negotiation Benchmark comes with one copy of the report, one meeting and a back up data disk.
